China

We sent out first team to China in 1982 and we have the privilege of presently serving on more than 40 vibrant university campuses across the country. Over the last three decades several hundred thousand of China’s most gifted and promising students have come through our classrooms before taking influential positions in virtually every walk of life. China is a country with a long and rich history, and it is unlikely that any other single country is destined to have such sweeping global influence in the 21st century. Your passion to serve the Chinese people and bring them excellence in the English language will provide the rewarding opportunity of investing in this extremely motivated and gifted generation of university students, faculty, and national teachers of English.

We currently have more than 250 adults and 100 children living in China year-round, spread across 48 campuses in 18 provinces, major municipalities and Special Autonomous Regions. An additional 120 participants serve in our summer programs in China. Though we do not require any level of Chinese language fluency to serve with us, we do encourage all of our longer-term teachers and staff to become proficient in Mandarin. Because of this we have our own highly regarded Chinese Language Program on the campus of Northeast Normal University in Changchun, Jilin Province. We also have numerous other initiatives across China including Teacher Training Centers and community based Educational Assistance Programs.

All of our personnel in the University Teaching Program are placed on teams. Your 16 hours per week of classroom instruction will focus on speaking and listening skills. Some opportunities exist to teach other fields of study as well. These include public speech, American and British literature, Western culture and history, mass media, reading, conversation skills, writing, business, law and computer science, among others. You’ll also discover the importance of developing personal relationships with your students, where they’ll gain practical conversational skills during out-of-class interaction and fellowship.

We are actively seeking new personnel to serve in these new initiatives:

  • Teaching both English and content classes in elementary and high schools
  • Teaching content classes at the university level

New!
Spanish Language Teaching Program

We now are placing teachers of Spanish on university campuses in China! Those serving in these positions may teach both Spanish and English, and must possess a native-like fluency in both languages. Presently we have a limited number of Spanish Language teaching positions.

CENTER FOR EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP
(LECTURE 1-2 WEEKS)

ELIC provides industry experts in specialized fields to lecture and participate in roundtable discussions with relevant groups of industry and government leaders, university faculty, and graduate or doctoral students. We provide these specialized lecturers under the umbrella of ELIC’s Center for Executive Leadership (CEL). Currently CEL is offered only in China. Those who participate in these lectures and roundtable discussions find the experience to be highly rewarding as they engage with their Chinese counterparts over periods ranging from a few days to two weeks or longer. In some cases these lectures take place at a single location; in other cases it involves multiple cities. We send both individual participants as well as teams of two to four. Rather than taking place on a set schedule, these opportunities develop as we can match available expertise with like requests from China. Guest lecturers with CEL typically have travel and China expenses covered and usually receive a modest honorarium.

Currently we are being requested specifically to provide industry experts in these areas:

  • Information Technology
  • Logistics
  • Finance
  • Social Governance
  • Educational Management

If you would like to explore serving with the Center for Executive Leadership, please forward your CV along with specific suggested lecture topics in your area of expertise to CEL@elic.org.  Questions may be directed to Lizzie Talcott at 970.530.3831.

In addition to these initiatives through the University Teaching Program, we offer these programs in China:
Teaching Fellowship Program (university graduates through age 25)
Summer Teaching Program (university graduates through age 65; some current university majors)
Engage Program (current university students)
